London suffered particularly when world war ii. It suffered bad damage from bombs when this time & numerous of thousands of children in the city were evacuated out to the countryside to avoid the bombs. The most severe bombing occured between 7 September 1940 & 10 May 1941. One of the most popular places to visit in London is Buckingham Palace, which has been the london residence of the monarchy since 1837. The palace was initially opened to the public in 1993 and the changing of the guard has proved particularly popular with them. This ceremony takes place in front of buckingham palace at 11. 30 every single day in summer and every other day throughout the winter. Buckingham Palace is found in Westminster and it is accessible by bus & tube. The night club is quite expensive, but its full of celebrities and wonderful for star spotting. in addition to this, it serves wonderful food by michelin starred Garry Hollihead. Because its such a massive place, London is truly simple to get to. in fact, its connected well by rail and has some historic railway stations, containing London Bridge, London Victoria, London Euston and Liverpool st. in addition to this, the city also boasts 3 big airports, Heathrow; Stanstead and Luton. London is a friendly city & the capital of great britain.
Although various people expect all londoners to be cheerful cockney characters straight out of Dickens, nothing could be farther from the truth. in actual fact, London is a diverse place that has residents of all religions and nationalities. for this reason, it is estimated that over 300 different languages are used in the city.
In 1863, increasing traffic congestion on roads in city centre london led to the erection of the world’s first metro system, the london underground.
The city was bombed badly along world war two & many people were killed. after the war, many buildings in the city had to be built again.
Following world war two, immigration transformed London into one of the much diverse cities in Europe. Immigration was not always smooth, because there were massive race riots in notting hill and brixton, but intergration was certainly smoother than in other english regions.
As it is the capital of the uk, London boasts the perfect museums in the country. One of the perfect is the Science Museum, which is situated in south kensington. The museum was established in 1857 & boasts more than 300 000 exhibits, including Puffing Billy & Stephenson’s Rocket.
The city boasts plenty of marvellous galleries too, including the National Portrait gallery.
